Who we help

Most people who call us have never done this before. Here is who they usually are.

Daughters, sons, spouses, and people arranging their own care.

Adult sons and daughters

You live twenty minutes away, or four states away, and you have a job. You have been managing it on the phone and it is no longer working.

Husbands and wives

You have been looking after her yourself, and you are seventy-nine, and nobody has asked how you are doing. This is the group we most often wish had called us a year earlier.

People arranging their own care

You have decided you would rather choose this yourself, now, while it is still your choice. That is the best reason anybody calls us.

Anyone else who is worried

A grandson. A niece. A neighbour who has noticed the post piling up. You do not have to be next of kin to call and ask a question.

Hospitals and social workers

Discharge planners, case managers and care managers in the Merrimack Valley. Call Selena directly and we will tell you straight away whether we can take the referral.

Before you call

Four things people tell us they were afraid of. Here are honest answers.

The four reasons people put this off. Answered honestly.

I feel guilty. I should be able to do this myself.

A daughter, Lowell

You are not failing your mother by asking for help. Nationally, family caregivers spend an average of 24 hours a week on this. a second job. and 61% say it has damaged their own work. Nearly a third have stopped saving money. One in five say their own health has gotten worse. You did not run out of love. You ran out of hours. Bringing in a caregiver two afternoons a week is not the end of you looking after her. It is how you keep looking after her for another five years instead of another five months.

I don't want a stranger alone in my father's house.

A son, Dracut

Neither would we. This is the fear we take most seriously, and the honest answer is that it is not solved by promises. it is solved by process. Every caregiver we send is background-checked before they ever see a client's address, and we tell you the name of the person coming before they arrive. You meet them. If it is not the right fit, you tell us and we change it. no argument, no awkwardness, no charge. Our full screening process is written out in plain English on our About page, and you should read it before you hire anyone, us included.

My wife won't accept it. She'll say she doesn't need it.

A husband, Chelmsford

She almost certainly will say that at first. In ten years of doing this work Selena has rarely met anybody who welcomed the idea. What she is refusing is not help. it is the idea that she has become someone who needs help, in her own house, in front of you. So we do not arrive and announce that we are the caregiver. We start small: someone comes to do the laundry and drive her to her appointment. No uniform, no clipboard, no fuss. Six weeks later she is telling you what the caregiver brought her for lunch. And if she still says no, you have not wasted anything. the consultation was free, and we will tell you honestly whether we think it is worth trying again in a month.

I have no idea what this costs, and I'm afraid to ask.

Everybody

Then we will tell you before you ask. Call us and we will walk through the numbers on the phone. no assessment fee, no registration fee and no minimum contract.

If your question is not on this list, it is still a fair one. Ask it on the phone. we would rather answer it than have you wonder. There are twenty-six more on our FAQ page.

Hourly or live-in

Any of our seven services, arranged one of two ways.

Not locked in. Change the schedule anytime. no charge to adjust.

A caregiver smiling at a restaurant table with a group of older women enjoying dinner out together.

Option one

Hourly care

A caregiver comes for a set number of hours. a few afternoons a week, every morning, or one long day so you can go to work without your phone in your hand. This is where most people begin, and for many of them it is all they ever need. Start with three hours on a Tuesday and see what happens. If it does not work you stop, and you have lost one afternoon's money and learned something.

  • Set your own hours and days
  • Any of our seven services, in any combination
  • Add or drop hours as things change
  • No minimum contract
  • A break for you, on a schedule you can plan around
An older couple sitting outside in the sun with a small child on the woman's lap, quiet and at home.

Option two

Live-in care

A caregiver lives in the home. Someone is there overnight, at three in the morning, on Sunday, and on Christmas. People choose this when the honest answer to \u201Ccan he be alone at night?\u201D has become no. and when the alternative on the table is a nursing home. There is a second thing that matters more than families expect: it is the same person. Not a rotation of strangers, each one learning again that he takes his tea black.

  • Someone in the house day and night
  • Overnight safety and supervision
  • The same familiar caregiver
  • Personal care, meals, housekeeping, all of it
  • Usually well under a facility. see our rates

Not sure which? Then you are exactly like everybody else who calls. Nobody has done this before. Call us, describe the situation, and we will tell you what we would do. and if the answer is “he needs less than you think,” we will tell you that too, even though it is the smaller sale.

The person behind the phone

When you call at nine at night, you are not calling a call centre.

Selena Barach has spent ten years doing this work in Lowell, first at the bedside and now running her own agency here. She is not a regional director and this is not a franchise office with a national logo on the door and a disclaimer in the footer saying head office is not responsible for what happens here. It is her name on the business, which means it is her name on every visit.

Ten years in one city, in one job, is a long time in this business. The families she started with have introduced her to their neighbours, and their neighbours have introduced her to theirs. That is still how most people find us. which is also why we cannot afford a single bad week.

Why choose us

Six reasons, and not one of them is a slogan.

01

Trusted and compassionate caregivers.

HHAs and CNAs, background-checked before they are given an address, and matched to the person rather than to a slot on a schedule. If the fit is wrong you tell us and we change it.

02

Seven services, one agency.

Personal care, companionship, homemaking, transportation, memory care, respite and hospital-to-home. When needs change, you do not have to start again with somebody new.

03

Affordable private pay, and we tell you the price.

Ask on the first call and we will tell you the number. No assessment fee, no registration fee, no minimum contract.

04

We can usually start immediately.

If you need someone this week, say so on the phone. Very often the answer is yes.

05

Dignity and independence come first.

The point is not to take things away. It is to leave a person with as much of their own life as they can safely keep. A caregiver who does everything for someone is doing it wrong.

06

Available 24 hours a day.

Nights, weekends, holidays. The phone is answered. not a voicemail box you call and then wait beside.

How it works

Three steps, and the first one costs nothing.

1
A caregiver in green scrubs on the phone, taking notes in a notebook at a warm home office.

You call, and we listen.

Call (857) 246-1129 or send the form. We ask what has been happening, what the person can still do, and what you are most worried about. About thirty minutes. Nobody sells you anything on this call. If we are not the right fit. or if what is needed is a visiting nurse rather than us. we will say so and point you somewhere better.

2
A hand signing a Home Care Service Plan on a clipboard at a wooden table.

We put a plan and a price in writing.

Which services, hourly or live-in, which days, which hours, and exactly what it costs per week. You see the number before you commit to anything. Nothing starts until you say yes.

3
A first greeting at a front door in daylight.

You meet your caregiver, then care begins.

We tell you who is coming before they arrive, and you meet them. If it is not right, we change it. no charge, no argument. Then we stay in touch, because in a year's time the plan you started with will not be the plan you need.

Areas we serve

We are in Lowell. Not in a regional office forty minutes away.

Several of the national agencies advertising in Lowell run it out of Westford, Bedford, Andover or Lexington. We are not saying they do a bad job. We are saying that when it is snowing and a caregiver has a flat tyre, the distance between the office and the house turns out to matter.
